Mary O. & Yamamura Level the Playing Field!... in my deranged imagination...

If you're not into Super Smash Bros. or Super Mario Maker... and maybe even if you ARE into those games but aren't as obsessed with Mary O. as I am... then this entry will probably be of no interest to you and you should probably skip it unless you REALLY want to know what goes on inside my head. :P

Being the Nintendo nerd I am, ever since the first Super Smash Bros. I sometimes tried to imagine what it would be like if various characters (video game or otherwise) that weren't playable in any SSB games yet were.

But I don't think I've ever come up with a complete moveset for one until now. Usually all I think of is:
- "What would Kirby look like if he copied this character?"
- "What would this character's alternate costumes be?"
- (for characters who aren't from a series that's already in the game) "What would this character's series symbol be?"
- MAYBE a game mechanic that would be unique to that one character
- MAYBE taunts and MAYBE special moves and a Final Smash.

And usually I don't write about or draw any of these ideas either - just think about it.

But lately, due to my constantly being obsessed with Mary O. (who unfortunately is still obscure enough that I feel like I have to link to that article again), I've been thinking more and more about what it'd be like if she and Yamamura were playable in Super Smash Bros. as a 2-in-1 character similar to Duck Hunt.

In fact I first thought of this idea at some point before April Fools' Day 2017 (see the music tag for that entry), but lately I've been thinking more and more about how this could work, enough that I think I have ideas for their entire hypothetical moveset by now.

And I keep thinking about said moveset so much that writing an entry about it is probably the only way I'm ever going to stop being so distracted thinking about it, even though I doubt it'd be interesting to anyone here (none of you are as obsessed with Mary O. as I am, and a lot of you probably aren't even into Super Smash Bros. enough for this to be of interest to you). So I'll LJ-cut it so I won't bore you. :)

It feels so weird that I've put all this thought into making an entire moveset and such for Mary O. & Yamamura for literally no reason since I doubt I'd be making a Super Smash Bros. fangame or hack anytime soon... and it feels especially weird to actually be typing out this ridiculous idea after spending so much time only thinking about it...

Well, now you know what goes on inside my head! :P

Always wondering what comes after the end

Well, I graduated yesterday!! (Okay, so it's 1:45 AM right now, so I guess now it's the day before yesterday?... It was December 12. That we know for sure.)

And I was so tired after the ceremony that on the way home, I could remember every new day I kept falling asleep and waking up - despite playing Super Smash Bros. 3DS to try and keep myself awake, so sometimes my character would end up standing there for a while until I woke up again. :)

And then I got home at 5 PM or so and pretty much went straight to bed - and stayed in bed until about 2 PM the next day. Yes, I was THAT tired after all the stress from this semester...

And guess what pathvain_aelien gave to me as a graduation gift that originally would've been a Christmas gift?

Dark Sky Island, the new Enya CD!!!

I'm listening to it for the second time right now :)

It still feels weird that there's a new Enya CD since so much has changed since the last time there was a new Enya CD with new songs... I mean, this is the first Enya CD with new songs since I started becoming active on LJ. It's the first Enya CD with new songs since this dream from 2009 or earlier (notice where I say "I never got to see what was on the other CD. I want it so badly."? I like to pretend that Dark Sky Island was the other CD in the dream, and that after nearly seven years, I'm finally getting to listen to it). It's even the first Enya CD with new songs since I designed Wænya, which was also nearly seven years ago! Which just goes to show how long I've been putting off all sorts of stuff...

Yep - I created my LJ account on August 19, 2007. Sad how the anniversary of LJ should happen to be the day after I accidentally deleted a lot of LJ-related stuff, though... in fact, I was so busy after that happened, I didn't get to finish this post until the day after the anniversary of my LJ. :(

I also wanted to include LJ comment stats (which I said I'd do every three months starting on the fourth anniversary, but ended up deciding to just do once every year), but since this post is already late, I'll post them later.

speed limit 25 upside-down

This is really cool

Ever since I found out about image sonification (converting an image to a sound or vice versa - in this case, with the horizontal axis corresponding to time and the vertical axis corresponding to pitch), I'd wondered if anyone had ever been able to listen to music "upside-down" by reversing the image vertically so that low pitches become high pitches and vice versa, but I could never find one. However, while trying to find a free program I'd downloaded a while back that used a different approach to image sonification (but I'd either deleted or forgotten about), I finally stumbled upon a program that can edit music as if it were an image, including turning it upside-down!

And there's even a free demo! Isn't it amazing when something you wish existed turns out to exist after all? :)

I never did find the other program that I forgot the name of, though, but I'm wondering if anyone out there happens to know of it.

Its method of converting an image to music, using my uChIN RA G userpic as an example:

Assuming that the red channel is mapped to piano, the green is drums, and the blue is flute (there's over 200 instruments to choose from, I think), most of the piece would be silent (for the plain black background), but towards the middle, the piano would play at only one pitch that is slightly lower than the highest pitch it allows (since all red values on the text are 248), the drums would play at two pitches (that one plus a slightly lower and quieter one for green values of 192, corresponding to the darker yellow/orange pixels), and, occasionally, the flute would play at that same high pitch (as there's only a few pixels - namely, the white pixels - where the blue is 248 instead of 0). And there's options to treat it as a grayscale image and only play one instrument, invert the colors (useful if there's more light colors than dark colors), lower the resolution to make a shorter piece, change the tempo, or have the tempo be faster whenever the instruments are quieter (to reduce the silence in this example).

If you didn't understand that, don't worry - you'd probably understand it better if you'd used the program I'm trying to describe, so that means you probably haven't. But if you do understand that, do you know what the program I'm talking about is called? Thanks!

you are steelblue

Your dominant hues are cyan and blue. You like people and enjoy making friends. You're conservative and like to make sure things make sense before you step into them, especially in relationships. You are curious but respected for your opinions by people who you sometimes wouldn't even suspect.

Your saturation level is medium - You're not the most decisive go-getter, but you can get a job done when it's required of you. You probably don't think the world can change for you and don't want to spend too much effort trying to force it.

Your outlook on life is brighter than most people's. You like the idea of influencing things for the better and find hope in situations where others might give up. You're not exactly a bouncy sunshine but things in your world generally look up.

It's my party and I'll reference the same song I referenced last year if I wanna

Welp, I have somehow managed to survive everything for 18 whole years. Go me!!

I haven't gotten my birthday presents yet, but I did go gambling for a little while (awehla, I mentioned in a comment that it'd be tomorrow, but the plans ended up changing). I won $63!!! And we had a party at the autism intervention group I go to!

And, of course, the usual Museum of Accomplishments post:

Also, in addition to today being my birthday, this is my 700th post in this journal!! I was going to celebrate with a list of the subject lines from all 700 entries in my journal (and, for once, even my community entries!), but I left my laptop unplugged while I was typing it, and since my laptop doesn't have a low battery alarm (despite claiming that it does), I lost a lot of it and decided to give up. Maybe for my 800th or 1000th entry?

infinite-paragraph essay

3...2...1...ignition...we have a third of a weekend.

So this weekend was kinda frustrating at first.

Yesterday, I learned that on the six-day NASA trip I get to go to if I have a high enough grade in the HAS course, I'll have to design some sort of...something with a group. Author...well, you know the rest. But on the plus side, in history class we got to bring and play different Monopoly games, so I brought the Nintendo Monopoly game I won at Main Event! (I didn't win, though.) Still, once I got home, I stayed up until just before midnight working on my HAS essay and just before 1 working on a packet in anatomy.

Then today, I got up at 2 PM today and worked on my HAS stuff more, finishing at about 6:30. At least I don't have to worry about any homework for the rest of the weekend! Yay!

EDIT: "Today, I got up at 2 PM today?" Wow, that's redundant.

200th post!

For my 200th LJ entry (my profile will say 201, but that's because I haven't deleted the welcome entry that's automatically made for new users), I decided to do something completely pointless: take the first word from my first post, the second word from my second post, the third word from my third post, and so on, all the way up to this one. (If post ♯X has Y words, and Y is less than X, then the remainder of X ÷ Y is Z, and I use the Zth word instead, or the last if Z is zero.) And yes, this is a ripoff of 160 Seconds.

While doing this, I've noticed that I have quite a few posts that are exactly 48 words long, by the way. Coincidence?

On a less pointless note, I had to get my braces tightened again today. And this time, there are rubber bands holding the top and bottom braces together (which have to be changed every time I eat or brush my teeth, and also before I go to bed), so it probably won't pull a my wisdom teeth this time. :(

I'll be at Camp El Tesoro from June 21-26. Hopefully, I won't make a fool of myself somewhere at camp like I did EVERY SINGLE TIME I'VE BEEN TO CAMP PREVIOUSLY. >:(

I also recently got pathvain_aelien addicted to Mario Kart Wii. Yay!
