As if it wasn't bad enough already that one of my favorite webcomics of all time is now 99.999% gone and it's unlikely that it'll ever return and all of my favorite YouTube channels, or at least the ones about gaming, could all disappear and I still remain unconvinced that they won't, now I heard that FACEBOOK WENT DOWN EARLIER TODAY???

I don't get on Facebook very often nowadays, but... it's Facebook. If Facebook can go down for that long, nothing else on the Internet is safe!

I thought I would get to enjoy Thanksgiving break, but how can I enjoy it if the whole Internet seems to be disappearing at once????

Oh I know Facebook is back up now. But when I heard it had went down this morning, for long enough for the fact it was down to be trending on Google, I panicked until I asked if it was back up now.

Even if Facebook goes down all the time, this is the first time I remember hearing about it going down. It's not the first time I've panicked over a big-name website on par with Facebook going down, because I knew about the time last year (I think) when YouTube went down for a while - but none of these instances are exactly comforting. I'm always scared that these will happen again or that something worse might happen in the future. I'm a little calmer now that I've posted this entry and comment, but still.

(Also, I didn't mean to imply that I can't enjoy Thanksgiving break at all because of it. I have been able to enjoyed it. It's nice having a break from work, and I enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner [or lunch in my case] with relatives. But at the same time, I'm just sometimes a little on edge about websites going down.)

but thats happened before. When it had crashed for a couple of days yeeeears ago. It doesnt mean anything terrible though. These sites have back ups for stuff, so nothing gets lost.

also it might help your anxiety by asking yourself, will worrying change anything? Is there anything i can do to change what might happen? Is there answers are no, you need to learn how to let it go.
Honestly have a google search for anxiety techniques.

It's not Facebook specifically that's had me worried so much lately. I've just been kind of on edge lately. Because as I've mentioned in some recent posts, one of my favorite webcomics is down (and has been for nearly two weeks, and may not be fixable at all seeing as the creator has already tried and failed to track down the bug). And there's some new law I don't know a lot - including when it goes into effect or even if it already has - about except that many YouTubers I watch are worried about what it'll do to their channels (which, since several YouTube channels I like have already went down, is a good reason to be worried in my opinion). This Facebook thing (at least until I found out it's back up now) just felt like the latest in all of that.

Is there anything i can do to change what might happen?

Yes. I figured if the YouTube thing is going to be as bad as people say it is, I should call attention to it by posting about it before it's too late. (Or if it turns out it wouldn't have been as bad as I thought it was, it doesn't matter whether I posted about it or not.)

And lately I've been trying to watch/read a LOT of things on the Internet that I'd been meaning to see for a long time, because while that won't change whether or not they go down some day, it will change whether I'm like "well, at least I got to see it all before it went down" or "NOOO! It went down before I could see all of it!" when that happens.

I know Facebook is back up now. But knowing that it was down for a long time at some point today stressed me out for a while because it reminded me of all the other times that websites have went down, in some cases indefinitely. :(

The internet isn't going anywhere. FB goes down all the time-all sites do, especially ones with heavy traffic. There is nothing to worry about.

This was just the first time I'd heard of Facebook going down. And when Mom first told me about it, it sounded like it had been down for a long time and I didn't even know it was back up until I asked her.

And I'm still on edge from the other stuff, too. :(

It happens like once a week or more. It is nothing to worry about. I think you misunderstood because you were panicking. She is having trouble with her internet connection because of the new phone and she didn't set it up correctly.

Like you said, you are on edge. So you are overreacting to little stuff and making a big deal out of it. Stay off the internet for awhile.

The internet is fine here.

I'm depressed. Because the world is ending and there has not been ANY proof that things will ever get better. I'm unable to think about anything except the fact that the world is ending, no matter how hard I try

I hate, hate, hate, HATE the term "social distancing". And being reminded of the coronavirus in any other way.

That's my entire personality now. And it will be until our world is back to normal.

Please read this entry before you comment on ANY entry in my journal about the coronavirus: https://matt1993.livejournal.com/373852.html

They probably won't be mandatory forever, but you still have to wear them.

I thought I told you that I DO wear a mask whenever I am required to or am told to. Why are you acting like I don't?…

Looking back at the Spanish Flu pandemic, it obviously wasn't like that forever. I don't know if people had problems with being able to adjust.

Even before this pandemic I've tried to wash my hands whenever I needed to - but I've never been sure if I'm doing so well enough or often enough. :(

but this is now our new normal.

As I said to arcadia30 above, I'm tired of hearing "new normal" because it implies that it will be like this forever and/or that I'm a bad person for being unable to…
