Birthed, eh?

I turned 23 about 23 minutes ago (as of my writing this sentence)! Yay!! :D

I'm not going to get to open most of my presents until the party two days from now, though. So I don't have much to say yet.

I will, however, make a Museum of Accomplishments post now! It'll be nice to not be 14 days behind on it and 379 days behind on it at the same time. :)

At age 23:

John Singleton directed his first film, "Boyz 'N the Hood."

T. S. Eliot wrote "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock."

John Keats wrote "Ode on a Grecian Urn," which ends with the lines, "'Beauty is truth, truth beauty,' - that is all / Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know. "

English poet Jane Taylor wrote "Twinkle, twinkle, little star."

Margaret Mead traveled to the South Seas as part of a "giant rescue operation" to study primative cultures before they perished.

Russian-American pianist Vladimir Horowitz made a spectacular concert debut when, impatient with the conductor's slow pace, he ran away from the conductor's tempo and finished Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 several bars ahead of time.

Novelist, playwright, and short-story writer Carson McCullers wrote her acclaimed first book, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter.

Truman Capote published his first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms.

Orson Welles produced and performed his "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast, terrifying millions of people. He also got his face on the cover of Time Magazine.

Jack Nicklaus became the youngest golfer to win the Masters.

Francois-Louis Cailler manufactured the world's first eating chocolate to be commercially produced.

By age 23 Marieanne McKeown survived cancer, raised £5,000 for Sri Lankan orphans and spent five weeks taking care of them in Sri Lanka.

Louise Prochilo moved out of her mother's house for the first time.

Jamaican-born Barrington Irving became the youngest person to fly around the world solo. He had constructed the plane from over $300,000 in donated parts.

At age 23, Stevie Wonder wrote "Higher Ground".

Zachary Griner moved to Ireland to start his life of filmmaking and adventure.

George Nospam sold his first magazine article for publication. It was about 'Roadside Urine Bombs' (which his editor chose from a list of 30 possible topics he suggested).

Happy birthday!
I haven't logged in to livejournal in over a year - but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday!

I hope you're enjoying life, and I wish you an excellent 23rd year. :)

Re: Happy birthday!
Hi! It's good to hear from you again :)

It's nice being out of college and having a part-time job working from home :) (Whenever I'm not having to stress about having to read a whole bunch of e-mails about potential full-time jobs all at once and respond to some of them, that is...)

How have you been?

Re: Happy birthday!
It's great to hear that you're doing well! I totally understand about job-hunting stress, though - my husband is going through that as I type this, actually.

I've been fairly well - just about two years ago, I finally found a job I enjoy (marketing for a tech startup in Connecticut), so that's been good! It's been keeping me busy, though. :)

I also get into waaaay too many political discussions on Facebook. :-p

I'll try to be around here off and on, to say hi. :)

Good luck to him!

Cool! It's nice to have a job that you enjoy. :)

I probably don't get into political discussions enough - I still try to avoid them whenever I can. I'm slightly more comfortable discussing politics than I used to be, but that's probably not saying much. :P

Blurb

If I had to pick six words to describe myself, I would panic and ask someone for help because I am so downright random and weird that there is no possible way to describe myself or my journal in only six words.

So here's a list of things you'll probably see in this journal, in no particular order:
- Posts about my life
- Posts about my worrying about being disliked for any number of reasons
- Posts about the fact that I'm trying to fix all the things that are messed up in my LJ and DW and catch up on lots of websites that I'm behind on reading
- Backups of my posts on Miiverse now that Miiverse is discontinued... so if you want to know what some random guy was saying about New Super Mario Bros. U or Nintendo Land five years ago, this is the journal for you :P
- Quizzes and surveys and such
- References to random things I'm obsessed with
- Whatever else I feel like posting

Some of the random things I'm obsessed with are:
- LiveJournal (obviously)
- Looking back at things that were made years ago... old posts on LJ, etc.
- Math
- Weird dreams
- Video games (mostly Mario, Super Smash Bros., Kid Icarus, and Chip's Challenge)
- Video game music
- Homestar Runner
- Enya, my favorite singer and biggest celebrity crush
- Too many comics/webcomics to name... Garfield, mezzacotta, Terror Island, and Circle Versus Square might be the ones I'm the MOST obsessed with though. Oh, and Super Mario Maker Crash Course - that counts as a comic, right? It certainly counts as something I'm obsessed with :P
- Speaking of Super Mario Maker Crash Course, my biggest *fictional* crush is Mary O. Yes, I have a crush on the guide to a video game MANUAL. I'm so weird...

For a (hopefully) complete list of interests and Q&A about me, visit my profile. :) (Which is still in need of an update...)

This journal is semi-friends-only, but there's not much rhyme or reason to which entries are public and which ones aren't...
