Be prepared twice the time?

My family had Chinese food for dinner, and Dad and I got the exact same fortune:

"The wise thing to do is to prepare for the unexpected."

Wonder if it means something?

Another interesting finding - my lucky numbers were 4, 9, 16, 25, 37, and 40... which is 2², 3², 4², 5², 6²+1, and 7²-9. Okay, so 37 isn't exactly 6² and 40 isn't even particularly close to 7², but still...

My friend and I once both got the same fortune, which was something like "There is a deep and sincere friendship between you." Freaky.

I look for patterns, too, so I think that your lucky numbers are cool, even if it kind of breaks down at the end.

On the other hand, "expect the unexpected," and similar statements like the one on your fortune cookie, irritate me to no end. You cannot prepare for, expect, or in any other way anticipate the unexpected. By definition, you cannot do this, or it is not unexpected. You can anticipate various scenarios, plan for a number of possible outcomes or obstacles, but... you know what? This is a longstanding issue for me, and I shouldn't hijack your journal to rave about it.

I think it means that the people who make fortune cookies are running out of asinine little sayings to put inside them.

Well...the fortune actually said "prepare for the unexpected", as in, plan ahead so that if something goes wrong, whether or not you expect it, you should be fine. But yeah, "expect the unexpected" doesn't really make sense.

Maybe it was unexpected that you would both get the same fortune. :) Nothing exciting happened to me today...despite my fortune. :(

I'm depressed. Because the world is ending and there has not been ANY proof that things will ever get better. I'm unable to think about anything except the fact that the world is ending, no matter how hard I try

I hate, hate, hate, HATE the term "social distancing". And being reminded of the coronavirus in any other way.

That's my entire personality now. And it will be until our world is back to normal.

Please read this entry before you comment on ANY entry in my journal about the coronavirus: https://matt1993.livejournal.com/373852.html

They probably won't be mandatory forever, but you still have to wear them.

I thought I told you that I DO wear a mask whenever I am required to or am told to. Why are you acting like I don't?…

Looking back at the Spanish Flu pandemic, it obviously wasn't like that forever. I don't know if people had problems with being able to adjust.

well before the pandemic, youre supposed to wash your hands before you eat, and after youve been to the toilet. Or if youve got something on your hands. Thats all.

Even before this pandemic I've tried to wash my hands whenever I needed to - but I've never been sure if I'm doing so well enough or often enough. :(

but this is now our new normal.

As I said to arcadia30 above, I'm tired of hearing "new normal" because it implies that it will be like this forever and/or that I'm a bad person for being unable to…
