Why do people care so much about the private lives of celebrities? Is it idol worship, schadenfreude, or something entirely different?

I think it's idol worship a little, but mainly just yet another sign of the apocalypse. Also, I'm pretty sure the title of this Writer's Block has been used before.

Whenever I'm not completely depressed, I'm enjoying my gifts. But I'm still completely depressed about 90% of the time :(
